Project Story
Launched in 2022 by Enactus CVS, Project Ikhtiraa is a pioneering initiative designed to tackle the growing issue of microplastic consumption and reduce reliance on conventional plastic packaging for food and beverages. Our goal is to introduce sustainable alternatives that not only benefit the environment but also support women communiiesy by providing them with alternative income opportunities and reviving traditional crafts. Research indicates that a single cup of tea brewed with conventional teabags can contain alarming levels of microplastics and nanoplastics, which pose health risks. The project is divided into two key areas: the Teabag vertical, which focuses on producing eco-friendly tea packaging, and the Claypot vertical, which creates beautiful, sustainable handmade utensils addressing the problem of plastic packaging in the FMCG industry.
Project Ikhtiraa empowers communities by offering them a reliable source of income while addressing the pressing issue of plastic waste in landfills and oceans. Our initiative blends environmental responsibility with social empowerment, striving to boost economic independence and significantly cut down on microplastics consumption wich is hazardous to human health.
Our tea bags, crafted from sustainable muslin cloth and hand-stitched, are FSSAI certified and designed to provide an optimal tea experience while protecting our oceans and health from microplastics. With flavors like lavender, tulsi, hibiscus, and lemongrass chamomile, we emphasize responsible consumption by sourcing ingredients directly from local vendors. Apart from that, the seam in our tea bags is stitched using a cotton thread instead of being stapled, which further packed in butter paper reducing microplastic emissions making it a zero-waste model.
Our partnerships with YWCA of India, Jitender Foundation, Kirti Life, and Y Knots have been instrumental in driving our mission forward. Project Ikhtiraa supports several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Good Health and Well-being, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Gender Equality.
Our Community
Central to Project Ikhtiraa is Pipal Chhaya, a women community under the YWCA of India. Here, women play a crucial role in assembling our eco-friendly teabags, which not only provides them with financial independence but also helps them build valuable skills. This involvement fosters personal and professional growth, boosting their economic well-being and empowering them to actively support environmental sustainability.
